Viscoelastic mattresses contain a novel polyurethane material that senses a change in temperature, pressure or both and then reacts accordingly. Lie on it and you'll feel it gently moulding to the shape of your body. It's for this reason that it was originally developed by NASA to be used in space as a way of reducing G-force on astronauts. Now a novel component in mattresses, Viscoelastic material is the best choice for pressure relief and for achieving a soothing night's sleep. It is also commonly known as Memory Foam, but this is a misnomer as Memory foam is not necessarily a viscoelastic material.
